Welcome to the Restoration Player City Spotlight where our Retired Community Programs Senator Nuri sits down to talk with the mayor of one of our awesome player cities giving you, our dear readers, the opportunity to learn more about one of the server's great player cities.
In this episode we return to colorful Dantooine and shine the spotlight on Walkabout Creek. Walkabout Creek is centrally located in the heart of quaint rolling hills, surrounded by small rivers and creeks. While you may be inclined to enjoy a cold beverage when visiting this crafting and innovation hub, you'd best watch out for the local fauna who also enjoy the scenic waterways. Today we sit down with Phoebe, who tells the tale of the lovely haven in the wilds of Dantooine.
As we usually start these conversations, tell us a little history of your city.
Walkabout Creek was founded Aug 16, 2022 but its history goes back much, much farther. Drak, one of ROGUE's founders, had a city in the exact spot back on live. On Resto, it was started several months after Krayt Canyon due to the growth in membership and as an alternative to Antheia on Rori for those who had seasonal affective disorder or couldn't afford a poncho.
Your city does have a unique name. Where did it come from?
Walkabout Creek was the small town that Crocodile Dundee lived in. Rather than stick with a generic "New Alderaan" rubbish name we thought a bit of fun from around the world may be a fun thing since we have folks living all over. Drak being Australian had nothing to do with it.
With all of the available places to choose, why did you choose this location?
Dantooine is a wonderful planet with gentle rolling violet hills and allows for a variety of housing styles. Being located between two mighty rivers provides not only fishing aplenty, but if you get set on fire, there are plenty of places to jump in and put the flames out. The ample waterfront property is a bonus. Being centrally located on Dantooine makes it useful for surveying and searching for grauls, and also provides convenient access to a Jedi shrine and the Warren.
What city specialization did you choose and why?
Drak: "Initially we tried Job Market for the cash and Entertaining for the buffs but we ended up crafting due to the amount of crafting players - and the fact that Prock made me."
Have you hosted any events in your city?
Early on we had a massive PVP roleplaying event where the Imperial forces invaded and we all bravely defended. I might even add that despite it being decided a draw we really won. Since then it has been relatively tranquil as the crafters prefer.
Tell us about the layout and some of the interesting places in Walkabout Creek.
The two rivers run north and south providing east, central, and west sections. East is mostly residential. Central is municipal buildings, the mall, a guild post office, some residences, and npc trainer (crafting in front of the post office, and combat on the north end of town with additional mission terminals). West is residential on the bank and factories towards the outskirts.
The Walkabout Well is a new mall next to the shuttleport. There you will find a couple of architects and artisans, as well as crafter supplies (resources, RE bits, BE consumables and equipment).
A guild post office provides not only boxes for citizens, but also a variety of communal resources: collection pieces, food and drinks, stims, grind resources, schematics, odds and ends, and a crafting safe haven for those being hunted by "Patriots"
